lifemaxing
Optimising life for fun and adventure.
Over the last year in Bangalore, I’ve increasingly optimized my life for fun and adventure.
Along the way, I’ve made a lot of new friends, formed some genuinely strong bonds, and rekindled old friendships that I never really gave a chance before.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, I realised something:
Lifemaxing is the way to live.
It’s simply the idea of putting a little more effort into making life fun. Turning ordinary plans into stories. Creating more reasons to look back at a random Tuesday and think, that was such a good day.
Say you’re at a restaurant with a friend and want to order five things.
Why order normally?
Order for each other instead. Don’t tell the other person what you picked. When everything arrives, taste the entire stack together and make a food tier list.
How fun is that?
Or book a theatre play for yourself and three friends.
- Don’t tell them what the play is about.
- Reach 30 minutes early.
- Get a mango shake and a vada pav.
- Walk into the theatre with your stomach full and enjoy the show.
- Afterwards, find the cast outside, tell them what you loved, and talk to them for a bit.
Sounds like a banger night to me.
A lot of this philosophy was reinforced by my friend Inderjeet.
Yeah. I say we bring back:
- chalance
- making an effort
- fun
- joy
- memorable nights with friends
There is already enough optimisation in the world for money, careers, productivity, and status.
Maybe we should optimise a little harder for stories.
For friendships.
For adventure.
For being ridiculously excited to be alive.
I say we start living the hell out of our lives.
